I have eclipse and the CF8 plugins successfully installed. The RDS viewers and
other aspects work but when I open a .cfm file, I have to specify that it use
the plain text editor because there is no ColdFusion editor.

I can't imagine that there is no editor. What should I expect to find and
where can I find the solution so that code complete and all the other editor
functions will work?

Have you downloaded and installed CFEclipse? It is a different plug in and needs to be installed seperately.....

Hey Guys,

thanks for the info. I have cfeclipse in the update area and I updated it. Now
have the option for the perspective but I get a divide by zero error when I
attempt that. I also get an error when attempting to open the preferences
sections for the coldfusion frameworks, unit, etc that says something about an
unsupported minor version.

So, it seems that the Adobe plugins work well but cfeclipse is not. Also, it
may not matter to most but the beta download link on the cfeclipse site is a
404.

Any ideas?

I actually spent 2 full days on trying to get CFEclipse to work and regularly
got errors like the one you described. I tried completely deleting all of the
Eclpse/CFEclipse files from my machine, downloading individual packages and
even entire pieces of the application (WST???).

I was unable to get it to a stable point and was not comfortable working with
my production code with CFEclipse. I know CF8 is supposed to offer debugging
functionality via CFEclipse that I'd really like to take advantage of (see my
post on this forum
"http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=1&catid=3&
threadid=1296737&enterthread=y")
but if I keep having to debug and report errors for the IDE how am I supposed
to maximize my productivity with the new version of CF8?

For now, at least, I'm back on Dreamweaver.

To add to Rich's post, here's the link to CFEclipse:
http://www.cfeclipse.org/

To the download/install page:
http://www.cfeclipse.org/index.cfm?event=page&page=download

Once installed, you can open the CFEclipse perspective by selecting "Open
Perspective" from the Window menu. If you don't see CFEclipse in a preset list,
which you probably won't, just chose other and you'll get a list of installed
perspectives you can open.

To set CFEclipse as the default perspective,
1. open Eclipse (after installing CFEclipse, of course)
2. open the application preferences
3. open/expand the General option
4. select Perspectives
5. click on CFEclipse in the list of installed perspecitves
6. select "Make Default"
7. select "OK"

HTH!

As I mentioned in another post, I strongly recommend
people pay the $25 for a month's membership at Lynda.com
and then use the CF8 Essentials video. It walked me right
through the Eclipse, CFEclipse and CF extensions.

You can also choose to get 1 month of Lynda.com free
after registering your CS3 suite (probably available if
you just bought a product too, but not sure).

I wonder if those of you getting errors if it could be the
order in which you installed. In the video, instead of
having us pick up those jar files and place them somewhere,
they had us first install Eclipse, then through Eclipse install
CFEclipse and then through CFEclipse, install the extensions.
It worked like a charm.

... funny you mention that, I actually bought a year's subscription to
Lynda.com and I will absolutely go through the tutorial (I'd swear up and down
that I already tried every combination of installing the files, but I'll give
it another shot). It won't be until this weekend that I have time to do it but
I'll try it and post my findings, will let you all know!

I really hope it works for you. Your best bet is to remove
everything and then follow the tutorial.
